New Madrid Fault: Recent Activity, Dead Birds, and FEMA

The New Madrid Fault System is a tectonic plate located in the Midwestern and Southern United States. It lies underneath the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, and Tennessee. It runs 150 miles from Cairo, Illinois through Caruthersville and New Madrid, Missouri, to Blytheville, Arkansas to Marked Tree, Arkansas. The tectonic fault continues into Tennessee, near Reelfoot Lake, and continues southeast to Dyersburg into Fulton, Kentucky. The last four months of 2010, nearly 500 earthquakes rattled Guy, Arkansas.  To give you an idea of why that is extraordinary, keep in mind that the entire state experienced 38 quakes in 2009. The spike in quake frequency precedes and coincides with the discovery of 100,000 dead fish on a 20-mile stretch of the Arkansas River that included Roseville Township on December 30 2009. The next night, 5,000 red-winged blackbirds and starlings dropped dead out of the sky in Beebe. Hydraulic fracturing could have contributed to all three events, as it causes earthquakes with a resultant release of toxins into the environment.  This is easily determined by visiting the USGS website and examining the depth of the quake.  If the quake is less than 5 miles deep, it is likely the result of a man made triggered event, instead of a naturally occurring earthquake.  A close look at Arkansas’ history of earthquakes and drilling reveals a shocking surge in quake frequency following advanced drilling. The number of quakes in 2010 nearly equals all of Arkansas’ quakes for the entire 20th century.

In January of 2011 there were more reports by every major news outlet of mysterious deaths of thousands of birds and fish in the states of Kentucky, Louisiana, Texas, and Arkansas, as well as Sweden, Canada, and Australia.   There are three locations with incidence of dead birds located on the New Madrid Fault zone to note in particular. Looking at the map of the United States, note that if you draw a line between the cities of Beebe, Arkansas, Labarre, Louisiana, and Gilbertsville, Kentucky, it makes an approximate 120 degree angle.  This particular angle defines the perimeter of the most active region of the New Madrid fault. Tremors release methane from underground crevasses that can cause birds to die, but in this instance the birds bodies were liquified and dropped to the ground.  Arkansas officials proposed that the mysterious deaths could be caused by a high altitude storm. The director of Cornell University’s ornithology lab in Ithaca, N.Y., said the most likely suspect is violent weather. It’s probable that thousands of birds were asleep, roosting in a single tree, when a “washing machine-type thunderstorm” sucked them up into the air, disoriented them, and even fatally soaked and chilled them. “Bad weather can occasionally catch flocks off guard, blow them off a roost, and they get hurled up suddenly into this thundercloud,” lab director John Fitzpatrick said.

Another possibility that cannot be ignored is the use of the Haarp system. Governments around the globe have been engaging in Weather Modification for many years, and that is just the tip of the iceberg.  Black budget programs such as the High Frequency Active Auroral Research Project (HAARP) operating out of Gakona, AK and other locations, have scary capabilities that could easily facilitate such a violent weather event, in addition to other events – Haarp stations have been reported in use around the world. The technology was believed to have been originally developed from theories posed by renowned scientist Nikola Tesla before his death. If other Haarp stations are in use in other nations around the world, it could provide cause for similar instances of dead birds and fish worldwide. Haarp signals calibrate using a 120 degree angle from the center point.  The Digisonde System, made by LDI, computes comparative signal strength for each ray along the antenna for directional tuning.  Above this paragraph is a diagram of of Antenna Array Configuration for DDA Software.  The HAARP machine is not exact and requires harmonic calibration.  Notice the triangle on the map marked at each city where the birds and fish were found dead. The distance at an approximate 120 degree angle cannot be ignored and suggests that this event may not have been natural. This peculiar circumstance suggests that it could have been a result of one of these experiments or other weapons testing that uses the same calibration.

According to details taken from Congressional bills, one of the purposes of the Haarp technology is to identify shale areas that contain Natural Gas Basins across the United States. A process pioneered by Halliburton called hydraulic fracturing, which shoots vast amounts of water, sand and chemicals several miles underground to break apart rock and release the gas. Over the last few years, a series of contamination incidents have raised questions about that EPA study and ignited a debate over whether the chemicals used in hydraulic fracturing may threaten the nation’s increasingly precious drinking water supply. However, a government study has not been made public on the effect of the process in relation to seismic activity. Independent scientists have documented direct connections between earthquakes and both oil and gas extraction and waste-water injection. Several of these studies demonstrate that hydraulic fracturing induces microearthquakes and that the analysis of these microearthquakes can be useful in understanding fracture zones and reservoir production rates. In essence, a combination of Haarp, Hydraulic Fracturing for Natural Gas, and other factors contribute to the possibility of an earthquake in the region. The area of the New Madrid fault contains one of the largest supplies of Natural Gas in the United States.

In 2010, there was a rare earthquake measured at 4.3 on the seismic scale near Chicago, Illinois.  Chicago, Illinois and surrounding areas awoke about 4 am central time on February 10, 2010 to the feeling of the ground shaking underneath them. The quake was felt as far away as Wisconsin and Iowa.  Illinois is along the New Madrid fault line that cuts through the central United States. The US Geological Society has revised the fault geometry and earthquake information recently. The new changes reflect an increased possibility of several large earthquakes occurring within the next few years, if not sooner. The USGS likens the potential earthquakes to the historic quakes of 1811-1812. These 5 quakes were all measured to be 8 or higher.

The history of quake activity in the Mississippi River area is calculated within the archaeological record to be no more than 64,000 years. Archaeological evidence indicates a large earthquake series around 300 AD, 900 AD, and 1450 AD. Within recorded history, the New Madrid seismic zone reports four of the largest earthquakes in North American recorded history. The greatest seismicity occurred from December 1811 and February 1812.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency had a drill to practice emergency response if the New Madrid Fault should become active again. It is interesting to note that similar drills were scheduled just before the September 11th attacks and the earthquake that struck Haiti.  The drill was disrupted and partially canceled due to severe flooding in the area, but has yet to be rescheduled.
